Ghost Recon Phantom, the free-to-play online shooter that debuted in 2012 as Ghost Recon Online, is closing for good on December 1. The decision was made following a gradual decline of the players actually playing the game and the numbers falling drastically over the years. The exact reason for shutting down this game is still not confirmed. As per some sources provided that the game was not doing as well as the studio was hoping for. The game had received a good reception at its inception, but it saw a gradual decline. Bad matchmaking, un-balanced micro transactions, lack of updates etc. were some of its major cons
The game received mixed to average reviews despite the stated shortcomings. This was mainly due to the fun gameplay.
” After more than four years of battles, fights, deaths and a lot of fun, we have made the difficult decision to close Ghost Recon Phantoms. It’s a tough day for our studio and indeed the team, some of whom have been working on this project since its inception some 7 years ago,” Ubisoft wrote in the closure announcement.
A sequel or any sort of a successor to the game is unlikely to happen as stated by the developer.
Initial public reactions were no less than that the state of surprise. People complained the redundancy of their purchased Ghost Coins. Some, however, supported the decision claiming it to be a wise decision by Ubisoft.
The developers themselves didn’t touch the game for years. As a result, the game was devoid of necessary updates for their online Player v Player match making.
