At the Detroit Auto Show Monday, BMW AG unveiled the new member of its growing SUV family, model X2. The company publicly announced the new 2018 BMW X2 compact crossover at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.


The model X2 includes a sportier, coupe-like wardrobe and new, Pentagon-shaped Bimmer’s signature kidney grille’s Pentagon-shaped version. The new X2 crossover will maintain the growth of the company as one-third of vehicles sales worldwide comes from the X family line, according to the president and chief executive of BMW, Bernhard Kuhnt.

BMW is characterizing the X2 as X1’s sexier and edgier version and the model will compete with small, sporty crossover segment including the Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Porsche Macan.

Interior of the model X2 comes with 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine with228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Sharing the 8-speed automatic transmission, on the sports steering wheel, the X2 contains the M Sport X Package, “Sports Automatic Transmission” with gearshift paddles for quicker shifting. It wears optional 19- and 20-inch Y-spoke wheels and twin tailpipes that take the sporty look with a diameter of nearly four inches.

With seating for five, there are entertainment technologies and a host of BMW’s crash-avoidance. It sports a narrower greenhouse that is 3.2 inches shorter and 2.8 inches lower than X1. Its top sped is 130mph and it can hit 60mph in 6.3 seconds.

The pricing of the new BMW model X2 will be announced before its launch by the company.
