Facebook users will see more posts from their friends and family in their News Feeds very soon, the company announced on Thursday. Facebook is changing the way it filters posts and videos on its centerpiece News Feed.
Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said that this beginning would be a series of changes in the world’s largest social network’s design. He said that the goal of Facebook is to bring people closer together and encourage meaningful social interactions and build a meaningful relationship. Posts that indicate high levels of engagement will get a higher position in the News Feed with this new technology updates.
To prioritize what friends and family share, the company would change the News Feed’s filter that will reduce the amount of non-advertising content from publishers and brands.
Facebook head of News Feed Adam Mosseri said that new changes may impact businesses and organizations with Facebook Pages by declining pageviews and engagement. He says these updates will decrease Page’s reach, video watch time, and referral traffic.
According to Zuckerberg, with these new updates, the company is focusing on helping people find relevant content to increase social interactions.
“We feel a responsibility to make sure our services aren’t just fun to use, but also good for people’s well-being,” Zuckerberg wrote.
Facebook is known as the world’s largest social media network, with more than 2 billion monthly users.
Facebook may also release video chat device named Portal in May, according to rumors and it will be priced around $499. With the release of this new device, Zuckerberg’s priority is to change user behavior and how they interact with the social network.
