Once again, Nintendo is in the news related to Pokemon GO sensational mobile game. This time, the company officials revealed that the popularity of Pokemon GO has helped Nintendo to sell more 3DS handheld gaming consoles, which is named as the best selling system in July 2016, the same month where Microsoft’s Xbox One unseated Sony’s PS4 for the second time (the first time was in October 2015).
As of now, the company hasn’t claimed any sales numbers, but it said that the 3DS family console sales have increased over 80 percent year-over-year, i.e., compared to the July 2015’s sales. As an icing on the cake, it’s 2DS system has reached the two million sales mark in the same month (mostly, due to the price cut after the 3DS launch).
It looks like the rise of Pokemon GO has made the game enthusiasts as well as non-gamers to explore more about Pokemons and its related games as well. And this exploration leads them to many of Nintendo’s Pokemon games such as Pokemon X and Y, Pokken Tournament, Pokemon Rumble World, Pokemon Shuffle, Pokemon Black & White and many more.
More people play Pokemon GO, more interest in other Pokemon games and that makes people to play the games, and for that they need the console, and there comes Nintendo 3DS.
The good news for other Pokemon game developers is they are also witnessing the rise in sales of their games in every platform. According to the statistics provided by vg247.com the latest Pokemon main series remastered games such as Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby have seen a 80 percent increase in sales compared to the last year. Moreover, the Pokemon X and Y game’s sales have raised 200 percent year-on-year over July 2015.
To be precise, Nintendo’s 3DS handheld gaming console enables these enthusiasts to play more Pokemon games, and ultimately, they have to buy them in order to play it. If that is the case, then the popularity of Pokemon GO would sell even more 3DS consoles in August as well as upcoming months as the augmented reality game launched lately in many parts of the world.
When the sensational augmented reality “Pokemon-catching” game Pokemon GO released in July 6 2016, the first company was to take the benefit was Nintendo, as the investors believed that the company is involved in the game. So the share price rose to a certain level and later started to fall as they understood about Nintendo’s part in the game.
Surprisinly, there is a non-Pokemon game that comes in the top of the charts for 3DS – Monster Hunter Generations. Gamerant said: “A game with a devoted fanbase, there’s little doubt that Monster Hunter fans would look into buying a 3DS to play, especially after the franchise’s previous success on the console.“
Meanwhile, Nintendo is hoping high for its most awaited Pokemon Sun and Moon, which is scheduled to launch in November 2016. If the Pokemon GO game manages to keep the users active and more interested on Pokemons, then Nintendo will be witnessing the massive sales of Pokemon Sun and Moon game as well as 3DS handheld gaming console.
Either way, on the day of Pokemon GO launch or through its popularity, Nintendo is gaining profits through the sales of its consoles as well as Pokemon Games. The record number of sales is expected in the coming holiday season when Pokemon Sun and Moon will be released.
