The latest Steam hardware statistics were released today – and they show Windows 7 is being adopted by gamers at an extremely fast rate. January saw the percentage of Steam gamers using Windows 7 eclipse the Vista Usage. Windows XP is still very much in the lead when it comes to gaming however, with 42.78% of the market.
The statistics also show for the first time in an the operating systems release history, the 64bit version is being used by gamers more than the 32 bit version.
Nvidia have kept a large market lead, with the total usage of the company’s graphics cards increasing 2% from 63.46% in December. NVidia mainly ate into Intel’s market, suggesting more laptops are being sold with the NVidia’s growing range of powerful GPUs.
The number of DirectX 10 systems increased in line with the NVidia’s market share, once again suggesting people are moving from the lower end Intel laptop cards onto more powerful GPUs that support newer - if not the most current - versions of DirectX.
Intel’s loses are furthered by close to a 1% drop in usage of Intel Processors, with AMDs usage slowly growing. The amount of people having quad cores has also increased 0.14% over the last month months.
4GB ram usage has increased 1.47%, with 2GB and 3GB usage dropping 0.89% and 0.99% respectively. Finally, it seems people have become less talkative, with the percent of users with microphones dropping 3.40% .
