It’s been two years since fans of Myst have been able to play URU, since it shut down in February 2008. However the game is now back and the first server is up and running under the new title of “Uru Live Again”. From the website:
“Everything takes longer than expected these days. Cyan Worlds’ plans are to move MO:UL to open source, and we finally have some good news. We’ve taken a first step and started a MO:UL server, so the Ages of Uru are available again. We’ve opened all the Ages, and added most of the goodies in MO:UL. We’re referring to it as MO:ULagain—feel free to explore and enjoy.”
Developers Cyan World announced at the end of 2008 that the game was back in their hands and would be recreated as open source. The game is now downloadable via the Myst Online website and is entirely free to play.
When it was released in 2007 the game saw a number of favourable reviews and achieved a Metacritic rating of 77% despite many critics noting that the game was more of a ‘virtual world’ than a serious gameplay experience.
