Aperture Games is a PC gaming site dedicated to any and all forms of PC games from World of Warcraft to Dwarf Fortress. We focus our content on providing intelligent reviews, interesting feature articles and informative news. Read on to find out a little bit more about what makes us worth reading.

PC Only

Many gaming websites follow multi-format designs which attract more visitors, but often end up focusing purely on the consoles and forgetting about the PC. This attraction to ‘triple A’ console titles means that they rarely cover some of the best parts of the PC scene: indie developers, mods and freeware games.

Aperture Games is focused on covering PC releases, communities and features from the biggest PC only releases to the newest console ports and small indie productions. We may only cover one format, but we try to cover it as thoroughly as possible.

Informative News and Commentary

There are a lot of sites out there which keep up with breaking news and cover every single PC release, update, press announcement and screenshot. Rather than recycling material from other sites, we want to bring intelligent discussion to the PC community.

Maybe we can even point out some news and links that have otherwise been ignored in the favour of the latest, greatest game publishing a new trailer.

Fair Review System

We approach our reviews from the perspective of a gamer with a budget that restricts them from buying every single release that comes out. We judge all games on their own merits but the two things we look out most for are fun and value.

We judge games based on how enjoyable they are to play rather than how good the graphics are or how inventive the gameplay might be.

We believe that the strength of our reviews is in the opinion and description of the game rather than a final score. However, we do use a full 1-10 scale to rate games. Under this system, a great game is something that scores 8 or higher. A poor game is a game that scores less than 4. An average game will score a 5.

We believe there’s not much point using a 1-10 scale if you’re going to give average games scores of 7 like many other publications and websites.

Community

We want to ensure everyone that contributes to our site feels like part of our community. That includes everyone from our writers to our affiliates and, of course, our readers.

We’re always looking for new people to join our team and we’re dedicated to helping everyone involved with the site make the most of of both Aperture Games and PC Gaming in general.

Our Beliefs

  • PC gaming offers gamers a near unlimited amount of choice and potential. Although many of our staff own and enjoy gaming consoles, the PC is by far the best way to enjoy the majority of games.
  • Game developers should be able to take necessary measures to prevent piracy but shouldn\'t use invasive and unnecessary DRM methods to do this, punishing the consumer.
  • Mutliformat games also released on the PC should be identifiable as PC games and do not need to be exact clones of their console counterparts.
  • The huge modding and indie communities dedicated to the PC deserve as much recognition as triple A titles from big developers.
