Google Hangouts Chat will be available for all G Suite users over the next week. Google’s take on modern workplace communication was first announced at Google Cloud Next 2017 along with Hangouts Meet. But, Meet was made available to public and Chat went into an invite-only preview. Now Hangouts Chat is open to all G Suite users.
Hangouts Chat is a totally different service from Hangouts proper that you will still find in your Google mail inbox. It is available on iOS, Android, and the web.
Hangouts Chat for G Suite represents its entry into the business communication area and it will be an attractive alternative to Slack for businesses those are already using G Suite tools as it will be included for every G Suite subscriber at no extra cost.
An updated Hangouts Chat will allow users to upload items from Drive, hold group video chats in Hangouts Meet, and work together on Sheets, Docs, or Slides.
Hangouts Chat offers virtual rooms for different parts of a company’s team, where each room can hold up to 8,000 people, and Chat works with total 28 different languages. Chat has threaded conversations and direct messaging as well as apps for Android, Windows, iOS, and macOS.
Hangouts Chat will use Google’s AI for more efficient workflows. Hangouts Chat will even offer 25 bots, aiming to help with productivity, meditation, organization, and mindfulness. Chat can work with the usual Hangouts app and users’ existing contacts.
Alongside the launch of Hangouts Chat, Google also announced the launch of Quick Access which will be available in Google Docs and Google Calendar.
