Yesterday, Konami unveiled its first Metal Gear game since the departure of series creator Hideo Kojima. Named Survive, it’s to be a four-player online co-op endeavor. It takes place in an alternate timeline following the events of Ground Zeroes. So far, it doesn’t really resemble Metal Gear as we’ve come to know it.
Judging from the trailer the game has a kind of supernatural feel to it. The player finds themselves on a strange planet due being sucked by the wormhole during the events of metal gear solid 5. Judging from what we have seen in the trailer the game takes place in an unknown deserted location. The player is being attacked by red zombie like creatures. The player is then aided by some more people with the same unfortunate fate. The trailer was jam packed with action and we could see the team working together and fending off the zombies. That’s pretty much what we see in the trailer.Loads and loads of action.
“Co-op is only one of the gameplay mechanics,” Jones explained in his interview with Eurogamer. “Obviously Metal Gear is well-known for its stealth, that is, primarily, what makes Metal Gear. There is stealth in it. I know when you’re watching the trailer, it’s all very action-packed. It doesn’t really elicit that feeling, but there will be stealth.”. Stealth and co-op don’t really sound like a match made in heaven. However, it seems Konami has a solution for it.
“One of the really interesting things that we will be exploring and playing with is how stealth and co-op can actually co-exist,” he explained. “We’ve formed gameplay that that kind of allows and enhances that. We’re not going into a lot of depth at the moment, but we will, obviously, in the future.”
He also stated the new weapons and arsenals that would be present in the game. He also clarified that it won’t be a 60$ game. Metal Gear Survive is supposed to be kind of a standalone expansion pack to the series.
This is the first metal gear game developed by Konami that has no input from Hideo Kojima. Can metal gear survive without Kojima? Lets us know in your comments below what you think..
