Dishonored 2 is an action-adventure stealth role-playing game that will release on November 11, 2016. It is being developed by Arkane Studios and will be published by Bethesda Softworks. The game will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The series is set in the fictional Empire of the Isles. Majority of Dishonored 2 is set in the coast city, Karnaca which is based on actual cities of Southern Europe. The game follows Empress Emily and her father Corvo’s attempts of regaining the throne.
15 years after the events of Dishonored 1, the Empire faces another crisis as an “otherworldly usurper” dethrones Empress Emily Kladwin. Branded an outlaw, she becomes an assassin just like her father and royal protector, Corvo Attano. She is granted the mysterious Outsider’s mark by a mythic creature. This gives her supernatural abilities as well as a vast variety of weapons and gadgets. With all these and her father by her side, she intends to reclaim her throne. Much of the game is set in the coastal city of Karanca but the game begins and ends in the city of Dunwall. For those who don’t know, that’s where Dishonored was set.
Dishonored 2 is powered by the new “Void” engine (based on id Tech 5) instead of the Unreal Engine 3 used in Dishonored. The engine is a masterpiece by Arkane as it gives out stunning visuals. The colours are sharp and the textures bright. The engine further enhances in-game lightning. The game can actually visualize subsurface scattering. The end result is a stunning view on your screens. The visuals can easily be mistaken for the real world.
The game allows you the choice of playing either as Kaldwin or Corvo Attano. Dishonored 2 also allows you the choice of finishing the game stealthily, without making even a single kill or to go completely ballistic. However the more you kill, the more chaos you cause and this affects the characters as well as the game. Dishonored 2 also has a marked difference from its prequel in terms of skill upgrades. Instead of the linear system of the previous game, Dishonored 2 has a skill tree. This allows for multiple paths as well as more powers. Some of the powers available are “Shadow Walk”, “Blink” etc.
Each level of the game is unique with regards to the plot or the mechanics of the game. If the developers are to be believed, Dishonored 2 is going to be more challenging than its prequel. Also, extra emphasis has been laid on stealth making it difficult to go out all guns blazing.
The game was one of the biggest surprises during its pre release in the E3. One of the reasons was the presence of a female protagonist, an aspect that is found lacking in majority of videogames. The game was lauded by many for its intricacy as well as imaginative take on things. The game is drawing tons of praise from gamers as well as critics. It won Game Informer’s “Best Multiplatform Game” award at the E3.
Well what can we say that has already not been said? Dishonored 2 is one of the most eagerly awaited games of the year and rightfully so. The visuals are a work of art. The plot looks engaging, the characters are relatable and the gameplay is awesome. So if you don’t know about this series, now is the time to play the first part of it. For those who have played Dishonored, the wait for November 11 must be excruciating. So start saving money people, Dishonored 2 is coming.
